A web site (also referred to as website) is a collection of electronic information in the form of words, pictures, sounds, movies, and interactive mediums. It is hosted on a web server connected to the internet that allows a user to connect to the saved files and have them downloaded and displayed on an individual computer. A single document on the internet is a called a web page, a collection of web pages is called a web site.
There are many 'languages' that a computer may use to understand a web site and to display it properly on your computer. The most popular web programming language is called HTML. You may also see; .net, C++, Java, J2EE, SQL, Perl, CGI, MySql, Xhtml, Flash, Php, Coldfusion and Xml. These are all variations to the way a website can interact with the computers that connect to it.
The Internet, is millions of computers around the world that are all connected to one another. These computers are connected by different types of connections, mainly known as dial-up low speed (telephone dial-up) and broadband high-speeds(cable, dsl, and satelite). This allows for the easy exchange of data. This makes it easy to view different web sites on a server, or sending email to others connected to the internet. Everyday more and more computers are joining the internet making the www (world wide web) increasingly more popular.
